WORRIES ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENTAL MOVEMENT

I have friends in the environmental movement and more friends
who believe ideas they have gotten from the movement, but I
personally find the attitude that I take to be typical of the
movement repellent and I find its goals for the country and the world
threatening. The purpose of this article is to express my views in a
way that hopefully will be comprehensible to people in the movement
or influenced by it.

Expressing these views is made more complicated by because
like any movement it is composed of people with differing attitudes
and goals. So if some of the attitudes complained about don't apply
to you, ok, but I would be surprised to find many people calling
themselves environmentalists who wouldn't admit to some of the
attitudes.

	1. The simplest and most unobjectionable part of
environmentalism is objection to sewage on beaches and other things
that everyone objects to. Presumably the environmentalist gives a
higher priority to cleaning up the beach than the mayor who has other
worries, but this is ok. It is normal for people to differ in
priorities and legitimate to urge others to share one's own.
